Love Letter to Typewriters
2026, Oil on Canvas, Oil Pastel, 3’ x 4’
My friend purchased a 1940’s Royal typewriter and after a few sentences I became obsessed with the clacks and rhythmic chimes that indicated some level of life in the machine. Seeing these moving parts effortlessly spit out words on to paper with a physicality nonexistent in contemporary keyboard typing seemed to strengthen my belief that love is labor. In an age where generative AI and LLM generated text seem to separate humans from the tangible, watching old black and white typewriting competitions on Youtube served as a catharsis.
